A new home for open-source AI
We are pleased to announce that the German Center for Open Source AI (GC.OS) has moved to the AI Campus Ulm (KI-Campus Ulm, or KICU for short), on the Upper Eselsberg in Ulm’s Science Park.
After outgrowing our previous location in Ehingen, we were looking for an environment that better matches our growth and our mission. At the KICU, we have found exactly that.
Why the KICU
The AI Center Ulm is a regional AI excellence center funded by the federal state of Baden-Württemberg and operated by PEG Ulm.
What makes the KICU especially valuable for us is the ecosystem it brings together: academic research, startups, small and medium-sized enterprises, and public institutions - via excellent reachability and dedicated event spaces.
The location aligns with our mission of sovereign and accessible AI for everyone.
Open-source AI in the right place
At GC.OS, we focus on open-source AI software to provide transparent and understandable alternatives to closed systems from large American technology companies. Being embedded in an innovation hub like the KICU brings us closer to the partners, use cases, and talent that are most important for this work.
The proximity to the Science Park on the Eselsberg opens up opportunities for collaboration that were harder to access from our previous location. Visitors from further away can also now reach us much more easily - directly by tram from Ulm main station.
Outlook
Ulm is growing as a competence nexus for AI, and we are excited to be at the center of this development. Better access to sovereign AI in the region mean more jobs, more innovation for local businesses, and a stronger position as a future-oriented technology hub.
We look forward to exchanging ideas with people interested in AI in and around Ulm — feel free to visit us on site or attend one of our AI events! Follow us on social media for details on events and opportunities.
